DAY 3

Day 3 - Helsinki

Monday, July 10th 2017, Helsinki

Far from the large natural spaces, it’s in the capital, Helsinki, that this day takes place. Our first visit was in the neighborhood of Tooloo, where you can find the “Sibelius” monument.

We ate in a small park that we had found on the way. The discovery of the capital continued by the visit of the Kamppi chapel (chapel of silence). Its architecture is very peculiar, and the building is entirely made of wood.

We strolled in the streets of the city center, and walked through the Esplanadi, until we reached the exterior market where you can find many stalls of souvenirs, clothing, or food. After that we got closer to the Uspenski cathedral, designed by a russian architect, and made of beautiful red bricks.

Next stop: Vanha Kauppahalli, where the old hall of the Helsinki market is located. If you come to this city, this place is definitely worth a detour. The stalls sell a lot of different types of food, and you’ll be able to taste many specialities. For us, it was time for an afternoon snack, so we chose a cupcake (the best of our life without a doubt!). The stall was named “Blondie Bakes”, if you’re interested.

Then we visited the famous Helsinki Cathedral.

And to end the day, we went to the botanical garden of the city. Unfortunately, the greenhouses were closed for the summer. However, the exteriors were magnificent, it felt really good to walk around all the vegetation… A detail we appreciated were the small signs next to all the plants that indicated their names.
